Tonk, Rajasthan, Nov 15: Irate villagers in Naharwadi near Tonk on Monday chased a hyena and later beat the wild animal to death.
The wild hyena had strayed into the village in the morning. It first attacked a few cattles and then pounced upon a woman.
Wildlife officials were informed but they arrived late. By that time, the villagers armed with stick and stones chased the hyena and started pelting stone at it. A wildlife employee who tried to reach the animal was thrown on the ground by the hyena injuring his leg.
The villagers later beat the hyena to death. The forest department has registered a case against the villagers. The hyena had strayed from a forest, nearly 100 metres away from the village.
