On being asked about the ritual, the villagers justify this act by saying that this is a blessing from above. They say that people here do not have children from their first wives hence re-marrying becomes mandatory.

The rate of illiteracy in this village is very high. Almost half the population is uneducated and treats it as a compulsion to marry again in order to extend their family.
