Pablo's Medellin Drug Cartel controlled 80 percent of Cocaine market across the globe hence making him the 7th richest person in the according to Forbes in 1987. Pablo had so much money under his possession that if an investor invested $1, he would receive $200 in return.
While he became a pain for the Columbian government Pablo undertook some acts of philanthropy. He developed a place in the hearts of Columbian public especially the poor ones. A sports lover, Pablo sponsored many small league football teams and spent money for constructing football stadiums and multi purpose sports complexes.
He also made some churches which helped him establishing popularity amongst the Roman Catholics.
Pablo married the 15-year old Maria Victoria when he was 26. Together they had two kids, Juan Pablo and Manuela Escobar. Pablo had constructed a lavish estate called the Neples estate for his family. Apart from the estate, Pablo had planned to build a fort based on Greek design. But the construction of the fort was never completed. Pablo's farms, zoo and fort were forfeited by the government and was handed over to a man with less income under extinción de dominio law. His property was turned into theme park.

Pablo killed two brothers inside his luxurious jail after they were accused of theft inside Drug Cartel. After discovering about Pablo's ongoing criminal activities operated which he operated from inside the jail, an attempt was made to move him to another jail. But Pablo managed to escape.
Pablo was shot dead by Columbian police. It was speculated by some of Pablo's family members that his death was a suicide. His brothers told that Pablo had told them if at any point he is unable to escape arrest he will shoot himself in the ear and end his life.
