1) West Bengal tribal girl gang rape: The spine-chilling incident took place in Rajarampur village under Labhpur police station of Birbhum district in West Bengal. A 20-year old tribal girl was gang raped by 12 men as a punishment for having an affair with a youth who did not belong to her community.

What came as bigger shock in this case was the fact that the gang rape was ordered by local tribal villagers who had assembled at a community meeting to mete out punishment to the girl for what they called her 'crime'.

The community meeting ordered the girl's parents to pay Rs 50,000 fine, failing which they ordered gang rape of the girl. The girl was gangraped on a bamboo platform in full public view.
