The body of Mikaeel Kular was found just before midnight yesterday in Fife to the north of Edinburgh and his mother Rosdeep was detained by police.
Hundreds of volunteers joined a major ground, air and sea search for Mikaeel, who was last seen when his mother put him to sleep on Wednesday night.
Malcolm Graham, Police Scotland Assistant Chief Constable, said: “As a result of enquiries the body of a young child was recovered in Fife just before midnight. We strongly believe this to be the body of Mikaeel.” He told reporters that Mikaeel's family had been informed of the recovery of a body and the investigation was continuing, BBC reported.
He also thanked rescue teams and the public for their “fantastic response” in helping to search for the missing boy.
