On June 27 this year, Abu Salem was attacked by inmates inside Taloja jail, after which he had prayed to the court that he be sent back to Portugal or Goa or to the Portuguese embassy in Delhi, but the court rejected his plea.

Abu Salem had also requested the special court that he be kept in Taloja jail, because he feared attacks from members of Chhota Shakeel gang and Shetty gang.
