The apex court also observed that as Mathura raised no alarm during her rape and there were no injury marks on her body, a rape cannot be proved.

The rape took place in a small district of Maharashtra hence the case went unnoticed,  but in the month of September, three law professors of Delhi University Upendra Baxi, Raghunath Kelkar and Lotika Sarkar and Vasudha Dhagamwar from Pune wrote an open letter to the Supreme Court of India.
