The ashram was surrounded by 30-40 men.  most of them armed with AK-47s and rest with local revolvers.

Four security guards were deployed for Lakshmananda's security. Out of four, two had been on a lunch break and rest were captured by assailants. Lakshamananda was shot  alongwith with his four disciples.
