New Delhi: With the name “Jack the Ripper”, the very first image that comes to mind is that of a tall man with a hat and a leather apron, walking into the dark streets. Famous worldwide, “Jack the Ripper' was an unidentified serial killer who committed murders around the Whitechapel district of London in 1988.
Jack the Ripper, a serial killer, was actively involved in murdering female prostitutes who lived and worked in the slums of London. The murders were done in such a manner that clearly hinted that the murderer possessed high surgical knowledge. The murders of the female prostitutes were done by cutting their throats prior to abdominal mutilation.
“Jack the Ripper” murdered at least five women, slashing their throats, removing some of their internal organs and leaving their mutilated bodies in alleyways in Whitechapel. All the murders took place between 31 August and 9 November 1888. These were known as "Canonical five".
