New Delhi: Kunjum Budhiraja, a fashion designer, was completely unaware of the ill fate awaiting her at the hands of the person she was in love with.
Her cremation ceremony was one of its kind as Romesh Sharma, the main accused of Kunjum's murder, solemnized his marriage with Kunjum on her death bed.
On March 20, 1999, the 29-year Kunjum was killed in Jai Mata Di farmhouse owned by Romesh Sharma who is said to be a frontman of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and was serving his sentence in Tihar jail.
Kunjum's mother alleged that Surendra Mishra, Shram's nephew, along with his accomplices had killed her daughter. Arrested 3 days later on March 23, Mishra confessed his crime.
Romesh Sharma had provided Kunjum's family with a bungalow, cash and gold worth lakhs and had made their future secured with fixed deposits. It was speculated that all the black money earned by Sharma would be bestowed upon his lady love once the couple gets married.
Surendra Mishra's fears were that it was him who had been visiting courts and attending to cases against Sharma but Sharma was busy giving away his property to Kunjum.
