On 29 April 2010, Nirupama was found dead. Her family claimed that she had killed herself and accused Nirupama's boyfriend for rape and abetting suicide. But the postmortem cleared that Nirupama was murdered and her mother Sudha Pathak was arrested for killing her daughter.
