New Delhi: It was underworld don Dawood Ibrahim who got Vicky Goswami, the husband of former Bollywood actress Mamata Kulkarni, arrested, according to some media reports.
If these reports are to be believed, Vicky was arrested at the behest of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim who hatched the plot for his arrest because of his close connection with another underworld don Chhota Rajan.
Police had also arrested Kenya's drug baron Barakat Akasha, Barakat's younger brother and Pakistani drug businessman Ghulam Hussain.
The Kenya police had on November 9 detained Mamta Kulkarni on charges of drug trafficking in Kenya with her husband. She is, however, not officially declared to be arrested.
Investigative agencies said that Barakat's father Ibrahim Akasha was Kenya's drug baron. He was killed in Netherlands in May 2000 in front of his family members.
Ibrahim's opponents had thought that his business will come to an end after his killing but Ibrahim's two son took over the entire network of drug trafficking.
At that time, Mohammed Bashir Suleiman, also known as MBS and said to be a top drug trader in Mozambique, wanted to make his strong presence felt in Ibrahim's bastion and thus he contacted Dawood Ibrahim and others seeking help to throw out Ibrahim's sons from the trafficking world.
In 2011, it was revealed that Vicky was running a drug racket with the help of Akasha brothers. Dawood, however, failed to trace the exact location of Vicky but he managed to gather some important information about Barakat Akasha. He informed Suleiman about the same which was later leaked to the police.
The Kenya police shared the information about Vicky's whereabouts with United States Drug Enforcement Agency which led to his arrest.
