Beijing: A farmer, whose crops were seized by officials for violating the one-child policy, committed suicide at a Communist chief's residence on Monday by consuming pesticide.

3.5 tonnes of crop which was a source of income for the 45-year old Ai Guangdong was seized by local officials in Liang'er Zhuang for having 5 children.

He had visited Communist chief's residence to resolve the issue where he consumed pesticide and later died in the hospital.

According to the one-child policy in China, a couple is only allowed to have a second child if the first child is a son. Ai and his wife Xie Yufeng gave birth to four daughters and a son.

Xie told that they had been paying money to officials ever since the birth of their second daughter. And an amount of 60,000 yuan per year was demanded by the couple after the birth of their third child.

Sadly, the couple only made 5,000 yuans per year through farming. The local government has offered the family with 15,00 yuans to arrange for Ai's funeral but the amount was rejected by his family.
