Ferozepur (Pb): A consignment of 13 kg of heroin worth Rs 70 crore in the international market was today seized at the Indo-Pak international border here. The BSF troops belonging to 105 Battalion foiled yet another bid of the smugglers from the Pakistani side of the border.
They also recovered a Chinese-made pistol and four rounds of ammunition after a brief exchange of fire with the suspected Pakistani smugglers.
IG, BSF, Punjab Frontier Anil Paliwal said that the BSF troops deployed at the border-out-post (BOP) Satpal, observed some suspicious movement ahead of the cobra fencing during the wee hours.
He said that the BSF troops challenged the intruders who were coming from the Pakistani side and had opened firing towards the BSF post.
“However the smugglers retreated back, taking advantage of foggy weather and darkness”, Paliwal said. He said during the search operation, the BSF seized 13 packets of heroin alongwith the pistol and ammunition.
Till date, the BSF has recovered 25.255 kg heroin this year. Last year, the BSF had seized 361.416 kg hreoin during various operations along the Punjab border. On the occasion, RPS Jaiswal DIG (G), R K Thapa DIG Ferozepur and other BSF officials were also present.
