Acid attack: Accused commits suicide inside Ghaziabad lock up, five policemen suspended

Ghaziabad, Jul 27: Lakhan, the accused arrested for throwing acid at a married woman in Ghaziabad, today committed suicide inside the lock up of Vijay Nagar police station, by hanging himself with his shirt, but the doctor who treated him says, he died of poisoning.





SHO Virender Singh, sub inspector Virender Kumar, constables Bhupendra Singh, Ram Khiladi and Kavindra has been suspended by SSp Ghaziabad Dharmendra Singh for negligence.

SP  City Shiv Shankar Yadav has been asked to probe the circumstances relating to his death. The SSP has ordered the formation of a three doctors panel to conduct post-mortem and get it recorded on video.

The SSP said, Lakhan was brought to the police station this morning at 7:40 am, and after interrogation he was given lunch inside the lock-up. While having his lunch, the accused managed to hang himself with his shirt from the door, he said.

Lakhan was rushed to Sanjeevani hospital, where he died 20 minutes later. Dr Sumit Pawar, who treated him, said the accused died of poisoning and there were no marks of injury on his neck.


 
Lakhan, hailing from Badayun, was in a one-side love affair with a 22-year-old married woman. When the woman resisted his advances, Lakhan alongwith an accomplice on a motorbike, threw acid at the woman's face on Friday morning near a shopping mall in Vijay Nagar.

The victim is undergoing treatment in MMG hospital, Ghaziabad. Lakhan used to work in an LPG agency in Sahibabad.
