6) In December 2010, the CBI filed a closure report and told the CBI court in Ghaziabad that it wanted to close the case as nothing was seen progressing. The investigators said there was no evidence to prove the involvement of anyone in the murders of Hemraj and Aarushi. However, the report said that the agency suspected Rajesh Talwar was responsible and there were some circumstantial evidence against Rajesh and his wife Nupur Talwar. The Talwars, on the other hand, filed a petition protesting against the CBI's attempt to close the case.
7) After hearing this, the judge said that there was enough circumstantial evidence to initiate the trial of Rajesh and Nupur Talwar. The judge ordered to charge the couple with murder and destruction of evidence.
8) A special CBI court, after a trial of over two years on 25 November 2013, held Rajesh and Nupur Talwar guilty for the twin murders and sentenced both to life imprisonment on the next day.
9) In January 2014, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar challenged their conviction in Allahabad High Court. Their plea is yet to be heard.
10) Journalist Avirook Sen wrote a book on investigation and trial of the case and listed many loopholes. A film made by Meghna Gulzar on the matter also tried to portray the case and narrated three different theories by investigating agencies and media coverage.
