1) In May 2008, Aarushi Talwar was found dead in her parent's home, a few days after her 14th birthday. At first, Hemraj their domestic help, who lived in their flat in Noida with the family was considered as the main suspect by the Talwars' but a few hours later, his dead body was also found on the roof of the same flat.

2) The initial probe was handled by the Noida Police which suspected Aarushi's father Rajesh in the murders and arrested him on suspicion. Investigating agencies have not been able to find the murder weapon. Moreover, the cellphones of Hemraj and Aarushi that could have given important details about their last few hours alive have not been found.

3) The case, however, could not be solved by the Noida police. The police was even accused of mishandling the investigation on several fronts. Cops handling the case alleged that Nupur and Rajesh Talwar were of questionable character. Even the police allowed media to the crime scene, much before all evidence had been collected.

4) After requests by Aarushi's parents, the case was handed over to the CBI for further investigation. The first CBI team that conducted the investigation said it had no evidence against Aarushi's father Rajesh Talwar. He was released from jail after three months of the murder in July 2008.

5) In 2010, the CBI arrested four men who worked as domestic helpers either for the Talwars or for their friends. These people were made to go through narco-analysis test but nothing was found against them. They were released after the investigating agency did not find enough proof to keep them in jail.
