Gurgaon/Panchkula/Ludhiana, Nov 30: Police in Gurgaon, Panchkula, and Ludhiana have so far closed down 25 hukka bars for providing high-nicotine tobacco to teenagers to inhale.
P C Meena, deputy commissioner of Gurgaon said that police and health departments conducted raid in all 12 hukka bars operating in this satellite city and found tobacco having 250 times more nicotine than cigarettes being served to teenagers.
The most disturbing aspect was, school boys and girls were found frequenting these hukka bars.
The hukka bar owners charge Rs 300-500 per hour from teenagers for using hukkas.
Two hukka bars were raided and closed down in Panchkula on Nov 23, said Narendra Ahuja, assistant drug controller. Here too, it was found that teenagers formed the bulk of the bar customers.
In two hukka bars in Sarabha Nagar and BRS Nagar in Ludhiana, nearly 50 teenagers, both male and female, were rounded up on Friday night. All of them were let off after a warning and the bars were closed down.
