Love crime: Childhood sweetheart kills man's wife, stages it as suicide
The childhood lover of a Delhi-based engineer allegedly killed his wife after hatching a plan with him. She staged it as a suicide to mislead the police.
The incident happened in southwest Delhi's Kishangarh where 32-year old Rahul Kumar Mishra lived with his wife Pooja Rai. They both got married on April 23, 2017.
On March 16, Rahul brought his wife to the Fortis Hospital where she was declared dead. The Kishangarh police station was informed by the hospital about the case which was later briefly interrogated by the cops.
The Mehrauli executive magistrate was informed before the proceedings as Pooja had died within seven years of her marriage. Her father's statement was recorded to ascertain the cause of death, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Devender Arya said.
The autopsy report termed the cause of death as homicidal after which a case was registered. Rahul and the other family members were kept on technical surveillance along with 33-year-old Padma Tiwari, who was said to have visited Pooja on the day of her death.
On Wednesday, Rahul and Padma were interrogated and confronted with the discrepancies in their statements. During the inquiry, it was revealed that the childhood lovers had hatched the conspiracy to eliminate Pooja in order to reunite.
They both were close friends since childhood as they studied together from KG to class 12 in Sindri Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Years ago they parted ways to pursue higher education and didn't keep in touch.
In April 2015, Padma was added to a WhatsApp group of their school of which Rahul was also a member. She contacted him and with the passage of time, their love rekindled and they entered into a relationship. Their relationship hit a brick wall when their families did not agree to their marriage, he said.
In January 2017, Rahul's marriage got fixed with Pooja by their families. Hoping that Pooja would refuse for this marriage, Rahul told Pooja about his relationship with Padma. Even then Pooja didn't refuse.
Rahul and Padma's relationship continued even after his marriage and they finally hatched a plan to eliminate Pooja and live together.
As per the plan, Padma visited Pooja and had breakfast together, but Padma had to wait to execute the plan as the domestic help was still present there.
Later, Padma overpowered Pooja and hit her head on the ground several times and smothered her. Then, she kept a letter close to the body to mislead the police. In the evening, she told Rahul on the phone that she had murdered Pooja, police said.
