A 26-year-old two-time national-level Taekwondo gold medallist has been arrested for allegedly snatching mobile phones in the national capital, police said on Saturday.
Suraj, a resident of Uttam Nagar area, was arrested on Wednesday, they said.
On August 5, a woman had filed a complaint alleging that her mobile phone was snatched by two motorcycle-borne men near Sanatan Dharam Mandir, Vikas Puri, while she was on a call, the police said.
Police analysed the CCTV footage of the incident and arrested Suraj from Vikas Puri. He was previously involved in more than 40 cases and had been recently released from Tihar Jail, a senior police officer said.
During investigation, it was found that a stolen motorcycle was used in the crime and it had been used in several mobile snatching incidents in the last two months, the police said.
A country-made pistol, one live cartridge, two mobile phones and the motorcycle were recovered from Suraj, they said.
