Six members of a family, including four women, have been booked on charges of harassing a housewife for Rs 25 lakh dowry in Thane in Maharashtra, police said on Friday.
The 27-year-old housewife's husband, Hari Kishore Wirvani, a resident of Ulhasnagar near Thane, is among those booked in the case, they said.
In her complaint to the police, the victim alleged that her in-laws and other members of the family made a dowry demand of Rs 25 lakh from her parents.
She got married on April 13, 2017 and harassment for dowry started a few months later, the police said, quoting the complaint.
When she refused to meet their demand, she was abused, cursed and driven out of her in-laws' home, the police said.
Her family members were also upset when she gave birth to a girl child, they said.
Based on the complaint, the police booked the housewife's husband and five other members of the family, including four women, under IPC sections related to dowry, criminal breach of trust, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt, among others, they added.
No arrest has been made yet, the police added.
