A man was bludgeoned to death by six people, including the Navratri organisers, after a dispute over the prize of 'Garba competition' won by his 11-year-old daughter in Porbandar town, Gujarat on Tuesday.
The tragic incident was followed by the declaration of the results of the 'best Garba' prize in which the girl - Krupali Odedara - won the ‘best Garba award’.
According to media reports, the attack on the father was triggered hours after he and his wife raised questions after their daughter was given one prize despite she won two. The
Mali - the mother of Odedara, a double prize winner - approached Garba organizer Raju Keswala to address the discrepancy, but, he and his wife allegedly misbehaved with her. A heated urguement between Mali and the wives of Keswala and co-organizer Raja Kuchhadiya took place at the event in which the former allegedly threatened her to kill her daughter.
Subsequently, hours after the brawl at the event, a group of men rushed to the girl's home and attacked her father - Sarman - when he sitting with his wife outside their home around 2.30 am. They mercilessly assaulted him with wooden sticks and took him back to the Garba venue where they bludgeoned him to death.
The police filed a case against -Keswala, Kuchhadiya, their wives, Pratik Boraniya, Ramde Bokhiriya, and other unidentified individuals.
The police said an investigation is underway into the matter.
