A 19-year-old boy was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) after he threatened to kill players of the Indian cricket team. Identified as Brij Mohan Das, the accused was arrested Tuesday for sending an email to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In the email, the accused had threatened to kill the players of the Indian cricket team.
Following investigations, it was revealed that the accused had sent the emails to more cricket boards of other nations with the same threatening content. The case was then reported to the Maharashtra ATS.
After thorough verification of the details, the department found that the email was sent by Das, who is a resident of Shantipur Saharanpur, Morigaon in Assam.
Later, Brij was arrested by a team in Assam.
Meanwhile, a case into the matter has been registered under sections 506 (II) and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1932.
Brij was produced in a magistrate court in Morigaon, Assam from where his transit remand was obtained. He was later brought to Mumbai, Maharashtra and produced before Mazgaon court. He has been remanded to police custody till August 26.
