Security forces apprehend 10 Naxalites during search operation in Chhattisgarh's Sukma

The arrested Naxalites include an extremist with a bounty of Rs 1 lakh over his head. They were nabbed during a joint search operation in the forest near Duled village in Sukma district.

In a joint operation, security forces arrested ten Naxalites on Monday from a forest in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

One of the arrested Naxalites was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head. Speaking about the arrest, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said, Madvi Buska, Madvi Joga, Madkam Deva and seven others were apprehended from the forest near Duled village during an anti-Naxalite operation.

He further said that the joint search operation was underway in the area which included the personnel of the state police's District Reserve Guard (DRG), local police and 204th, 206th and 208th battalions of CRPF's elite CoBRA unit.

Details of the arrested Naxalites

Buska carried a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head and was a militia commander under the Eranpalli Revolutionary People's Council (RPC) of the outlawed Naxalites outfit while Madkam was the president of its agriculture wing, the official added.

Another Naxalite Joga was section 'A' militia deputy commander under the Peddabodkel RPC, he said.

According to the official, the other seven were lower-rung cadres and involved in several Naxalite-related incidents of violence.

Over a dozen were arrested a week ago

The crackdown on Naxalites has significantly increased in Chhattisgarh. Earlier on May 13, as many as 14 Naxalites were arrested from the forests of Mutvendi and Pidia villages under Gangaloor police station limits in Bijapur by a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and local police.

These extremists including, six women and eight men, were part of the outlawed Left Wing movement's 'military company number 2' and 'Gangaloor area committee'. The arrest was a major success as 11 of the nabbed Naxalites carried a cumulative bounty of Rs. 41 lakh over their head.

Before that, on May 10, the security forces had gunned 12 Naxalites down in a 12-hour long operation in the forests of Pidia village.

Additionally, on May 17, the Chhattisgarh Police busted a Naxalites hideout and recovered three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Gariaband district.The security forces were combing the area after getting a tip-off. Although the Naxalites managed to escape, the explosives were recovered from the site.
