Rajnandgaon Election Results 2024: Rajnandgaon became a hot seat after Congress fielded former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel against BJP's sitting MP Santosh Pandey.

Rajnandgaon Election Results 2024: Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel lost his poll battle against sitting BJP MP Santosh Pandey in Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat in Chhattisgarh, but managed to reduce the saffron party's victory margin to 44,411 votes. Baghel, a former chief minister, polled 6,67,646 votes, while Pandey secured 7,12,057 votes. Baghel's defeat is a big embarrassment for Congress as he is the biggest face of the party in Chhattisgarh.

Rajnandgaon, one of the Lok Sabha constituencies in Chhattisgarh, is represented by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Santosh Pandey. The Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency comprises eight assembly segments including Pandariya, Kawardha, Khairagarh, Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon, Dongargaon, Khujji and Mohala-manpur. The constituency is a General seat.

The Rajnandgaon constituency in Chhattisgarh went to polls in the the second phase of the 18th Lok Sabha Elections 2024 held on April 26. Mahasamund, and Kanker also voted along with Rajnandgaon constituency on April 26.

Over 73 per cent of the electorate exercised their franchise in three Lok Sabha constituencies -  Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, and Kanker on April 26.

The result for the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency will be declared on June 4 along with the other 542 parliamentary constituencies of the country and assembly elections held in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

Rajnandgaon Election 2024: Main parties and candidates

There is a direct poll fight between Congress and BJP in the Rajnandgaon constituency. The BJP backed sitting MP Santosh Pandey, while Congress its biggest face in Chhattishgarh Bhupesh Baghel. Baghel's presence in the race made the constituency one of the hot seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Rajnandgaon Election: What happened in 2014 and 2019? 

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, BJP leader Santosh Pandey won the seat defeating Congress candidate Bhola Ram Sahu with a margin of 111,966 votes. Pandey gained 662,387 votes with a vote share of 51.00 per cen, while Sahu secured 550,421 votes with vote share 42.09 per cent.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, BJP candidate Abhishek Singh won the seat bagging 643,473 votes with a vote share of 54.61 per cent. On the other hand, Congress' Kamleshwar Verma got 407,562 votes with vote share 34.59 per cent. Singh defeated Verma by a margin of 235,911 votes.
