Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday tried her hands on a charkha at 'Panchayat Raj Mahasammelan' in Chhattisgarh's Kanker region. The grand old party's General Secretary is currently on a visit to the poll-bound state.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was also present during the event. As Priyanka Gandhi tried hands at the Charkha, several other women were seen accompanying her.
Making an election pitch in the state during a public address in Kanker, Priyanka Gandhi said, "I announce that if Congress repeats government in Chhattisgarh, then like Bihar, we will also hold caste census in the state."
"Is the strength of people belonging to OBC, SC, ST communities in top posts 84 per cent? Don't they have rights? Why can't there be a caste census? It must be carried out," she said.
"Only with time, trust is developed... Today, if you have trust in the Congress government in Chhattisgarh, it is because the current government here is taking forward an old tradition of the Congress. My family has an old association with Chhattisgarh. Pt Nehru visited here during the freedom struggle. My grandmother Indira Gandhi visited Bastar in 1972. My father and mother also visited Bastar many times to understand the problems faced by the people of Chhattisgarh and find consultations. This is how trust was built in Congress party in Chhattisgarh..."
The Congress leader also lashed out at the Modi government and said, "What happened to Modi's guarantee of depositing Rs 15 lakh into bank accounts of every citizen and of generating crores of jobs? Whenever a question is asked, Modi ji gives a new guarantee. His guarantees are hollow guarantees."
