Chhattisgarh: Two minors killed, 8 people injured after truck collides with auto-rickshaw in Jashpur

The local police has registered a complaint against the absconding truck driver, who fled from the spot soon after the accident. According to the police, efforts to arrest him are on.

In a tragic accident, two minor boys got killed and eight other persons injured after a truck collided with an auto-rickshaw in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district on Tuesday, police said.

According to officials, the accident took place at around 2 am at Tehsil Chowk in Jashpur. The victims were returning home to Dumartoli village. They were returning after doing catering work at a wedding event.

The police official said that the truck driver lost control over the wheels following which the vehicle collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw carrying 10 persons at Tehsil Chowk under Bagicha police station limits.

After getting the information, police reached the spot and the victims were taken to a hospital in Bagicha where doctors declared two boys dead. The deceased, aged 11 and 14, were brought dead, the official added.

Among the other eight persons injured, five were critically hurt and hence were shifted to a medical facility in Ambikapur city for better treatment.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem. Regarding the legal proceedings, the police official informed that a case was registered under relevant provisions against the truck driver. Notably, after the accident the accused driver fled from the spot. The police said that efforts were on to nab him.

19 people killed in other accident

Earlier yesterday (May 20), as many as 19 people died in another tragic accident in Chhattisgarh. The deceased, including others, were travelling in a pick-up vehicle which overturned. 4 others were injured in the accident. Prima facie it was suspected that the vehicle was speeding causing it to lose control and overturn. The tragic incident occurred in the Bahpani area of Kabirdham district, Chhattisgarh. Upon getting the information, local authorities and rescue teams swiftly reached the spot. The injured were swiftly taken to the nearby hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were recovered. 

Expressing condolences over the accident Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Arun Sao said that all the deceased were returning home after collecting tendu leaves from the forest.
