Chhattisgarh: Six Naxalites carrying total reward of Rs 36 lakh surrender in Sukma

The six Naxalites were affiliated to Maoists' People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion Number 1, People's Party Committee Member (PPCM), Kistaram Area Committee and eavh had a varying bounty over their head. They surrendered after getting inspired by police's 'Puna Narkom' drive.

In a major achievement for the security forces, six Naxalites carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 36 lakh on their heads surrendered in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, an official said.

Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Chavan identified the six Naxalites as Dudhi Pojja and his wife Dudhi Pojje, Ayate Korsa alias Jayakka, Kawasi Muda, Karam Naranna alias Bhuma and Madkam Sukka alias Rainu.

They belonged to different area committees across the district with varying bounties on their head. 

The SP said, "Pojja carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh on his head and was part of the Maoists' People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion Number 1 and also a People's Party Committee Member (PPCM). His wife Pojje, with a bounty of Rs 8 lakh on her head, was also a member of PLGA battalion Number 1."

Naxalites got impressed by 'Puna Narkom' rehabilitation drive

"Jayakka, who carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on her head, was the Kistaram area committee commander as well as Area Committee Member (ACM). Muda, Bhuma and Madkam had a cumulative bounty of Rs 15 lakh on their heads. The six surrendered after being impressed by the district police's 'Puna Narkom' (which means new dawn in the local Gondi dialect) rehabilitation drive for Naxalites," he added.

Sukma SP said that they will be provided with all the facilities provided as per the state government's surrender and rehabilitation policy.

More surrenders in recent past

Earlier on April 29, 23 Naxalites, including 7 women had surrendered to the police in Dantewada. The Naxalites were part of the Bhairamgarh Area Committee of the Maoists in south Bastar and laid down arms before the police and officials of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Before this, another 26 Naxalites surrendered in front of the CRPF on April 15. They were part of Kistaram, Bhairamgarh, Malangir and Katekalyan area committees of the Maoists in south Bastar.
