In a major success in anti-Naxal operations, the security forces have arrested Nine Naxalites on Wednesday from two places in Chhattisagarh’s Bijapur district.
Five of them were allegedly involved in triggering an IED blast targeting a police car last month. These five extremists, identified as Guddu Kumma (25), Budhu Kumma (30), Suresh Oyam (29), Vinod Korsa (25) and Munna Kumma (25), were arrested from Mandem-Kuprel villages under Farsegarh police station area. All five extremists were carrying a reward of Rs 10,000 each on their heads.
The incident was reportd on May 15 when Station House Officer of Farsegarh police station Akash Masih and constable Sanjay were traveling in a police car. It was targeted using an IED. They had escaped unhurt, while the blast caused damage to the bonnet of the vehicle
Moreover, the other four Naxalites were arrested from Madded police station limits. All the nine Naxalites were involved in the incidents of murder, planting an improvised explosive device (IED) to target security personnel, extorting illegal, cutting roads, levy and putting up Maoist posters and banners, the police said.
Of the four others nabbed from Madded, one Lachhu Punem was active as a Madded area committee member of Naxalites and carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head. According to police, they were allegedly trying to plant an IED on both sides of a road near Somanpalli and Bandepara. The police also recovered explosive, safety fuses, gelatin sticks, Maoist pamphlets and banners from them.
Earlier on June 2, eight other Naxalites surrendered to the scurity forces in Sukma. Out of 8, four carried a cumulative bounty of Rs 5 lakh over their head. According to the police, they were impressed by Chhattisgarh government's Naxal elimination policy and the Sukma police's rehabilitation drive 'Puna Narkom' (a term coined in the local Gondi dialect, which means new dawn, new beginning).
