In a shocking incident in Chhattisgarh's Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district, five members of a family were brutally hacked to death, while the suspect was found hanging alongside them on Saturday. The police said the incident took place in Thargaon village, about 200 kilometers from Raipur, under the jurisdiction of the Saliha police station.
The police mentioned that the matter came to light after the locals alerted them about the crime. Elaborating on the details of the incident, the district Superintendent of Police, Pushkar Sharma, said the victims, identified as Hemlal Sahu (55), his wife Jagmoti Sahu (50), their daughters Meera Sahu (30), Mamta Sahu (35), and their grandson Ayush (5), have been killed by Manoj Sahu, whose body was also found hanging within the premises. Significantly, Manoj was also a resident of the same village where the deceased family lived.
All five bore-axe injuries and initial circumstantial evidence suggest that Manoj may have killed the family members before taking his own life, the SP added.
Meanwhile, a forensic team has been deployed to the site, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and motive behind the horrific crime. The bodies were also subsequently sent for autopsy.
