New Delhi: The summer is at its peak and people irrespective of being in rural or urban areas are facing the brunt of it. While air-conditioners are a recourse for the urban populace, it also has its shortcomings. Air-conditioners, besides being unfriendly to nature, involve a huge amount of electricity consumption resulting in power shortage and, not to forget, proportionally unkind electricity bills.
If you are among those who are troubled by your steep power bills or are concerned about your bills rising if you purchase an air-conditioner, Bangladesh may offer the perfect reason to cool off, quite literally.
No, we are not talking about tourism. Ashis Paul, a creative supervisor in our eastern neighbouring country has developed a one-of-a-kind air conditioner which is free of cost as it needs no electricity.
The invention, a DIY cooling system, does not need any electricity and works simply with empty plastic soda bottles.
According to reports, his company has helped install its smart powerless air conditioners in almost 25,000 households. The coolers are named as the ‘Eco Coolers’.
Observers.France24 in its report explained that developing an Eco-Cooler is very easy.
Steps to make the Eco-cooler:
You have to simply cut plastic bottles and mount them onto a board and then place it over a window. The bottlenecks should be placed towards the inside of the house.
How does it work?
The report explains that the change in pressure occurs when air enters the wider part of the bottle and comes out through the bottleneck and this cools the air. This seems a bit weird but you can test it through a live example. Blow on your hand with your mouth wide open, the air feels hot. But when you blow on your hand with your lips pursed it feels like a cool breeze.
The Eco-Cooler doesn’t require any electricity can decrease the temperature by 5°C immediately. Also it goes from 30°C to 25°C making the tin huts cool to live in.
