Rihanna's lookalike Renne from Chattisgarh
Model Renne from Chattisgarh is ruling the Internet over her sparkingly similar looks with international popstar Rihanna. Renne entered the modelling industry about two years ago. But things weren’t this merry for this dark beauty. As a child she was always mocked and made fun of, due to her dark complexion. India still being backward about someone’s complexion and colur, such rasicm is quite expected. But Renne rose up from all this and made a platform for herself. She recalls, “When I was three, I participated in a fancy dress competition and was made fun of and called ‘Kali Pari’. Twenty years past the incident when I sign autographs for fans, I recall that incident and think, ‘Kuch Pariyan Kali bhi hoti hain’ (Some angles can be dark too)”.
Renne hails from a small town of Chattisgarh called Bagicha. Rejection became a constant in her life as the fairness obsessed industry wasn’t willing to accept a dark girl with unconventional features. Talking about the struggles she faced while pursuing her dream she says, “They told me all models are into prostitution. I won’t become a model unless I pleased clients. Being dark had already killed my chances”. She even faced criticism from photographers and make-up artists who tried to bury her under layers of make-up and heavily photoshopped her pictured in order to maker her look fair.
One day, one of her friends found her resemblance to the international singer Rihanna and decided to do her photoshoot exactly as she is. Firstly Renne laughed off her resemblance to Rihanna but slowly everybody agreed with her friend.
Thanking Rihanna for her unintended contribution to her career boost, she says, “With such deep rooted prejudice in people’s mind, it would have been very tough to get work. The Rihanna factor turned out to be a blessing. Rihanna has already convinced people that she is sexy and beautiful and the West is crazy about her. If I resemble her, how can I be unattractive? That’s how our mind works. I don’t know where I would have landed without Rihanna.”
Renne also wishes to meet the popular singer one day and thank her for her contribution.
