Google honours classical dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai with a doodle

Mrinalini Sarabhai was conferred with Padma Shri in 1965 and Padma Bhushan in 1992. Google has honoured the lady on her 100th birth anniversary.

Mrinalini Vikram Sarabhai, an Indian classical dancer and choreographer, has been honoured by Google with a doodle on her 100th birth anniversary. She was the recipient of the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Shree. The lady began her dancing training at a very young age. She learned Bharatnatyam, Kathakali and Mohiniyattom. The lady established her career in choreography and the choreographed many dance dramas. Sarabhai pursued education under Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore at Shantiniketan and went on to write many poems, plays and novels.

In 1948, the lady founded the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts with her husband Indian physicist Vikram Sarabhai in Ahmedabad. It is being said that she has trained more than 18,000 students in Bharatanatyam and Kathakali.

Mrinalini took the training of Bharatanatyam under Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai whereas learned Kathakali from the legendary Guru Thakazhi Kunchu Kurup. She was conferred with Padma Shri in 1965 and Padma Bhushan in 1992. During her stay in Switzerland, Mrinalini learned different art forms. She took her first lessons in the Dalcroze school.

In the Google Doodle picture, Mrinalini can be seen with her signature parasol in the auditorium where three ladies can be seen dancing.
