Bollywood is an industry of diversity. People from various regions and countries come here to get work. While some are quite fortunate and become stars overnight, the ill-fated ones witness their dreams being shattered. You will surprised to know that many talented actors whom you thought to be Indian citizens aren't actually Indians. They don't hold Indian passports and don't have voting rights.
However, nationality of a star hardly matters to fans as long as they are talented and successful. Here is a list of Bollywood celebrities who are not Indian citizens.
Deepika Padukone
The leggy lass, Deepika Padukone who was born to badminton star Prakash Padukone and travel agent Ujjala in Copenhagen, Denmark. At that time, her father was undergoing an extensive training session. However, she returned to India before turning one. Recently, hitting out at those protesting against her film Padmavati's release, Deepika said, ''we've regressed as a nation". The comment invited flak from political leaders including Subramanian Swamy who said that she has no right to give lecture on regression as she is not even an Indian citizen.
Alia Bhatt
The Highway star Ali Bhatt also doesn't have voting rights. She and her mother Soni Razdan are British citizens. Alia was born in London and hence holds British passport.
Imran Khan
Aamir Khan's nephew, Imran Khan also cannot cast his vote in India as he holds an American passport. The Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa star was born in Madison, Wisconsin, in the U.S. After the divorce of his parents, Imran moved to Mumbai.
Nargis Fakhri
Nargis Fakhri who shot to fame with Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar is also not an Indian. She has an American passport. She began her career in showbiz by participating in The CW series America's Next Top Model.
Akshay Kumar
The actor who is a vocal patriot is surprisingly not an Indian. He has a Canadian passport and to vote in India, he has to give up the same. Canada honoured him with its citizenship and since India doesn't accept dual citizenship, Akshay gave up his nationality.
Katrina Kaif
Katrina Kaif holds a British passport. The diva was born to a British father of Kashmiri descent and an American mother in Hong Kong. She has travelled across Europe before migrating to India. Katrina made her Bollywood debut with Kaizad Gustad'a Boom.
