Noooooooo! Are you kidding...what do you mean that 'no Bollywood star' would get chance to walk down the red carpet at the Oscars this year?
Ohk... & what about picking top notch designer for that stunning dress? Isn't that the sole purpose of attending somebody else's party?
Whats the big deal? As if we wanted them to tell us how amazing our Bollywood movies are and have been, don't we know that ourselves?
Everytime we are denied an entry in Oscars, all hell breaks loose and the eternal question lingers upon us, why our films are not competing with world cinema!
Do you think Oscars are the only platform, recognizing world cinema?
FYI, they are basically a recognition platform for America films.
Though they have one foreign language film category, where films from around the world compete; the academy jury single outs their favorite six.
Here are 5 reasons why we think Indians shouldn't bother about Oscars:
1) They mostly pickup movies which shows India in poor light
Be it 'Salaam Bombay' or 'Water' or even 'Slumdog Millionaire', for that matter only films which shows poverty and bigotry in India gets a nod from the Academy.
Even in Lagaan the fact that Indians were shown as slaves might have appealed to their condescending sensibilities.
2) Our films are made for Indian psyche not for American
Songs and dances have been integral part of Bollywood cinema, which they often find weird how could strangers on the road would start dancing with you.
Then Logic has never been Bollywood's forte.
3) Oscars are the Hollywood version of Filmfare awards
On the lines of Filmfare, Academy has often ignored path-breaking work in their own backyard, and followed conventional norms in their selection process.
It's better to stick to Filmfare or IIFA if you are into award ceremonies.
4) Hollywood greats have despised Oscars
If we have Aamir Khan not attending award functions in India, Hollywood greats have also refused the academy awards. Marlon Brando for Godfather, George C Scott for Patton Greats like Woody Allen, Jean Luc Godard, Joaquin Phoneix do not even attend the award ceremonies.
5) There are other international awards where Indian films have got recognition
Oscar Awards are not only for Intelligent cinema! In the past, a lot of Indian films garnered international acclaim, but they are not necessarily Bollywood films.
A slew of Indian regional films are doing us proud abroad, a new wave of Marathi, Bengali, Tamil filmmakers are making thought provoking film, which often goes unnoticed because we refuse to look beyond Hollywood.
