New Delhi: Chairman of RP Group of Companies B Ravi Pillai, who is one of the richest Keralites with net worth of $2.8 billion, hosted a multi-crore wedding for his daughter.
The week-long celebrations will kick started on November 26 witnessed Pillai's daughter Arathi Pillai and Kochi-based Adithya Vishnu entering the nuptial bond at Asramam Maidan in his hometown Kollam.
As per reports, the NRI businessman is spending close to Rs 55 crore in the lavish wedding which has a set larger than that used in the blockbuster movie Baahubali.
The festivities of this extravaganza are planned by the production designer of SS Rajamouli's magnum opus movie, Sabu Cyril.
“The design is unique for this event. But it's largely modelled on the royal palaces of Rajasthan,” said Cyril.
A team of 200 professionals has created a 350,000 sq ft pandal, spread over 8 acres, with an investment of Rs 20 crore. The palace in Baahubali was spread across five acres.
The gala event hosted 30,000 guests including 42 global leaders, government representatives, politicians, movie stars, CEOs of various companies, technocrats and diplomats etc.
The event saw dance performances by Malayalam film actresses Manju Warrier and Shobana followed by a musical show conducted by Stephen Devassy.
The lavishness of the wedding can be judged from the fact that Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and the Bahrain royal family were brought by chartered planes to the venue.
Moreover, 350 private security personnel were hired for the security apart from 250 cops provided by the administration.
While the richness of this wedding has garnered much attention, there is a philanthropic angle to it as well. Interestingly, out of the total budget of the wedding, Pillai used Rs 10 crore for humanitarian initiatives to help cancer patients.
