Menstruation is a biological process like any other process that happens inside a woman's body. Then why don't we openly talk about it? Stuffs like periods, menstruation are used secretively.
To be frank, in spite of being a millennium woman, we replace ‘periods' and ‘menstruation' with words and phrases like ‘I am down' or ‘my date is near.' Why can't we publicly say ‘am on period?'
Just because talking about such stuff is against our ‘Indian Culture' or just because some people think talking about these things in public makes us shameless. How long will it take for us to accept these things? When will we break these social taboos?
Perhaps the problem lies in the mindset of our society. In order to change the society's perspective, the first and foremost thing is to change one's perspective. From buying sanitary napkins in black polythene bags to claiming to be ‘down' when on periods, we are directly-indirectly we are being a part of this vicious circle.
It's high time that we break these stereotypes and disassociate ourselves from any shame, be it buying sanitary pads or on periods. Here are two videos that beautifully illustrate these tabooes.
