A shopping mall in the Russian far eastern city of Khabarovsk near the Chinese border had an unlikely visitor in the form of a bear.
CCTV footage showed the bear having a free run of the mall before it dramatically stood up on its hind legs to open the door and escape.
Unfortunately the story did not have a happy ending, for the bear.
After fleeing the mall, it reached a playground nearby but was shot and killed by a law enforcement officer.
The bear did not harm anyone since the mall was luckily closed for the night.
Animal rights activists in Russia were outraged by the police action.
"The police did what was simplest," said one animal activist Natalia Kovalenko.
"First they made it crazy by smoking it out of the mall, then when the animal came out and was defending itself out of fear, they shot it."
The main investigative agency in Russia has reportedly launched a probe into the legitimacy of the killing.
