An escalator of Langham Place mall in Hong Kong reversed its direction leaving 18 people injured. The 45-metre escalator of luxury 15-storey Hong Kong shopping mall changed direction without warning, and hurled shoppers on the floor.
One among the 18 injured has reportedly suffered a serious head injury, and was then rushed to the nearest hospital.
The CCTV footage of the incident showed queues of the shoppers going upstairs, but as the escalator switched its direction, people lost their balance and came crashing to the floor leaving many injured.
In the video, which has been watched by thousands of people on social media, terrified by the incident some visitors can be heard screaming.
The incident created panic in the busy mall.
According to the South China Morning Post, the incident took place on Saturday.
During this incident, shoppers present on the ground floor ran to help the people and pull them up. People helped each other and made sure everyone was all right.
A spokeswoman for Langham Place has said that they were very concerned, and have asked the contractor to do an investigation on the incident.
