New Delhi: This year India completed 69 years of freedom but for some Indians freedom is still an everyday struggle. Education is a basic human right but there are millions who are deprived of that.

We are talking about those 66 million girls who still dream of going to school. Out of those who get the privilege, more than 40% drop out by class 8.

To #BendTheRules and create a meaningful change for a better tomorrow, Star India has rolled out a ‘Girl Rising' campaign for the empowerment and education of girls.

10 Bollywood celebrities including Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit, Sushmita Sen, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Frieda Pinto, Parineeti Chopra and Nandana Sen are part of this mega project. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has pitched in with the narration.

These celebrated divas will tell 9 inspiring stories in ONE powerful film - Girl Rising Woh Padhegi, Woh Udegi. The Hindi version of this movie will premiere on August 29, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The film is a collaboration between the government's 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign and Star TV.

The team of Girl Rising also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June for finding out exciting ways to help create real, tangible change for girls in India.

Right now, approximately 225 million girls are under the age of 18 in India. The initiative talks about 225 MILLION reasons to invest in girls' education.

HP India and Intel India have also partnered with the initiative to ensure more number of girls in classrooms. An extra year of secondary school for girls can increase their future earnings by 10-20%.

Let's take a pledge towards bringing equality in education in India.
