A girl doesn’t want anyone other than her father to hold her hand while she is walking down the aisle on her biggest day. But from Jenni Stepien, this dream was snatched when her father was murdered 10 years ago.
It was in 2006 that she learnt this bitter truth when her father was shot dead in a robbery. But, being as thoughtful as they were, Jenni and her mother decided to save others by donating his organs.
As it happened, for his heart, they chose a man named Arthur Thomas who had been in need of a donor for 16 years but couldn’t find one. On the verge of meeting his maker, Arthur got a new life after Jenni’s father’s heart was transplanted in to him.
Ten years later, came the time when she needed her father the most. So, Jenni wrote a letter to Arthur asking if he would give her away to the man of her dreams.
For Arthur, this would be least he could do to thank Jenni for being his life saver. He happily gave her a thumbs up and showed up at her wedding day.
And at last, Jenni was walked down the aisle, knowing that if not his father, a part of him was with her.
Having tears of joy, Jenni was quoted by a local media saying, “It's just like having my dad here and better because we get to share this story with people and other people see that organ donors do matter.”
She shared a picture of Arthur walking her down the aisle on Facebook with a heart-warming caption that read:
More than anything, she was happy because people learnt the importance of organ donors through her story.
