A few days ago, an old video of newly appointed Defence Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman preparing Avakaaya or mango pickle was doing rounds on social media. She is the first woman to head the defence ministry on a full-time basis. Before Sitharaman, Indira Gandhi headed the defence ministry during her tenure as Prime Minister. An old video of Nirmala Sitharaman helping the members of her family to prepare mango pickle has left the internet divided.

The video dates back to 2013 and was uploaded by her husband Parakala Prabhakar on YouTube. In a minute-long video, Sitharaman can be seen helping a woman prepare mango pickle or avakaaya. Prabhakar is currently the communication advisor to the N Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh. He tweeted the pictures four years ago.
Twitterati lauded the simplicity of the Defence Minister. Singer Chinmayi Sripada pointed out the otherwise factor in the video. She said that no matter what feat a woman might have achieved in her career, she’ll always be lauded for her homely duties.
Nirmala Sitharaman previously serves as MoS for Finance and Corporate Affairs and later as MoS for Commerce and Industry (Independent Charge). Currently, she is the sitting Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka.
