Boston: A passenger, who happened to be a stage performer, was in for a rude shock when she boarding a JetBlue flight from Boston to Seattle. In an outrageous incident, JetBlue barred her from boarding the flight due to her ‘inappropriate outfit.’
Maggie McMuffin, a stage performer, was returning home after several performances on the East Coast on May 18. While boarding the flight, she was asked to change her ‘outfit’ as a crew member told her that the clothes she was wearing weren’t fit to fly.
“I felt disrespected,” she said in an interview to a news channel.
According to a daily, Maggie’s friend posted on Facebook saying, “This is what she was wearing last week when JetBlue told her she was dressed inappropriately and couldn’t board the flight from Boston to Seattle she had paid for.”
“She was connecting in Boston from NYC, also a JetBlue flight - which had no issues with the way she was dressed,” she further added.
To continue her journey, she was forced to buy a pair of shorts from another terminal.
“They refunded my shorts and offered me a 162 dollar credit,” Maggie said.
“I asked for a monetary refund since I don’t want to fly with them again and was told I could let someone else use my credit,” she further added.
However, Maggie felt discourteous for the behaviour of the airlines and says the policy of the airline is unfairly subjective.
On its part, JetBlue has apologised to the dancer, reimbursed her for the pair of shorts she bought at the time of boarding the flight and also offered her a $162 credit for a future flight.
Later on, JetBlue released an official statement related to the incident and said:
“The gate and onboard crew discussed the customer’s clothing and determined that the burlesque shorts may offend other families on the flight. While the customer was not denied boarding, the crew members politely asked if she could change. The customer agreed and continued on the flight without interruption. We support our crew members’ discretion to make these difficult decisions”
Maggie said, “It was a nice gesture, but I don’t really want to fly JetBlue again and they told me they couldn’t give me a cash refund.”
