New Delhi: Carlos Aguilera, a 27-year-old jazz musician shocked people with his performance of jazz classic during a 12-hour brain surgery. Yes, the surgery was being conducted on him.

Aguilera rendered the sax in front of 16 medics. The team of doctors reportedly wanted to ensure the procedure kept his musical skills intact during the operation.

According to reports, Aguilera was undergoing neurosurgery and the performance was actually a test.

''Surgery made me feel like I had been born again and I was given painkillers, but i stayed awake as doctors did not put me under general anaesthesia,'' Aguilera said later at a press conference.

As per the doctors, the patient was in a state of semi-consciousness, with his head open on the table. The surgery was a success.

One of the surgeons also observed that it was the only way to keep the patient conscious and monitor the language.

Speaking to reporters in Spain, Aguilera said that it was a unique experience for him to play the saxophone while his brain was being operated upon.

It was "like lying on the beach", he said.
