Nowadays Robots are being made with such techniques that makes them capable of performing what men cannot. Joining the bandwagon is the roving surgical robot which can conduct complex surgeries. This robot will now be touring four cities of Andhra Pradesh- Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada and Tirupati.

Da Vinci robot, which has been developed by the U.S.-based Intuitive Surgical Inc., is in use across U.S. and Europe since last six years. It became known in India just a month before and has been in use at the Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Research Institute and Hospital in Visakhapatnam and couple of hospitals in Telangana along with 50 other hospitals. Da Vinci robot is one of the great combinations of science and medicine as it includes 2250 plus patents with 1550 more pending. It is not an autonomous robot but is controlled by a surgeon. With its four flexible arms and magnified views of the damaged tissue, it is a boon for patients as they don't have to undergo the terrific experience of traditional surgery. Robotic surgeries lead to negligible blood loss, fast recovery and less pain.

A surgeon is required to sit at a console in order to control the robot's arms and send the required instrument to repair the tissue while functioning with da Vinci. Dr T Subramanyeshwar Rao, Medical Director and Chief Surgical Oncologist, Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital, Hyderabad says, "The distinct advantages of robotic assistance are high resolution 3-dimensional visuals and 10-fold magnification, wristed instruments with seven degrees of freedom of movement, filtration of tremors of surgeon's hands and motion scaling to suit the speed and experience of a surgeon."

Such a surgery is effective in areas involving soft tissue. It is yielding better results in gynaecological cancers, head, and neck and thoracic surgery, removal of organs such as the kidney, liver, pancreas, thyroid, prostate, and uterus, urology ailments and even organ transplants.
