Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed press conference on Thursday about Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan, a scheme aimed at providing employment to migrant workers who went back during coronavirus lockdown.
Updates from the press conference:
- FM Nirmala Sitharaman said that 25 government schemes would be brought together under Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan within 125 days.
- "When we talk about 'Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan', we are dealing with the immediate requirement of the workers who have gone back during national coronavirus lockdown," said Sitharaman.
- Broad expenditure of Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan is Rs 50,000 crore.
- Everyone needing work in these 116 districts will be provided employment under Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan
- Central and state governments have mapped skill sets of migrant worker who returned to 116 districts in 6 states, said Sitharaman
- We found that migrant workers returned mainly to 116 districts in six states namely- Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan.
