Xiaomi has launched its new 40-inch Mi TV 2: a powerful smart TV running an Android-based OS that will sell for $320 (approximately Rs 19,000). The price range makes it one of the most affordable full-HD smart TVs in the market.
Mi TV 2 features a 40-inch full HD LED panel by Sharp with 5000:1 contrast ratio, a Cortex-A9 quad-core 1.45GHz CPU, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of flash storage and a MIUI TV Android-based OS. The audio is taken care by Dolby MS12 virtual surround sound technology.
In terms of playback, it offers H.265 10-bit hardware decoding, allowing you watch H.265, H.264, MPEG4, and REAL, as well as other mainstream video formats like RM, FLV, MOV, AVI, MKV, TS and MP4.
Xiaomi is currently selling the 49-inch Mi TV 2 for $640 and is looking to offer fully loaded TV sets at a low prices.
On the software end, the Mi TV 2 runs on Android 4.4 wrapped under MIUI and an Android 5.0 update is on the cards as well.
Interestingly, the Mi TV 2 will be available in a variety of unusual colors for TV sets, according to the official images provided by the company.
It is still unknown when the TV will be available outside the Chinese markets. However if recent reports are anything to go by, Xiaomi is planning on bringing the TV to India soon.
