New Delhi: The Water Quality India Association (WQIA), industry body of water purifier manufacturers, has launched microbiological standards to certify household water treatment devices.
The industry body said that it will certify water purifiers in terms of bacteria, viruses, parasites.
"These standards have been specifically developed for Indian conditions and match global norms. WQIA also released a Quality Seal that will help consumers choose water treatment devices that meet these standards," it said.
It said as of now the standards followed by the BIS do not cover certification for microbiological agents.
It also said that WQIA will invite big players of the water purification industry to become the member of the association.
WQIA also said that as per the new standards the water purifiers will need to permanently install a sensor that will raise the alarm if the water purifier stops working.
