New York: The technology boom has helped propel numerous fortunes lately, as the Forbes global rich list boasts of a record 123 billionaires including six Indians who derived their fortunes from technology ventures.
According to Forbes, thanks to the tech boom, and strong stock market, the US once again leads the world with 492 billionaires, followed by China with 152 and Russia with 111.
There were six Indian billionaires in the Forbes rich list, who hailed from the technology sector led by Wipro's Azim Premji who was ranked 61 in the global list with a net worth of USD 15.3 billion.
Other Indian tech billionaires include, Shiv Nader ranked 102 globally, with a net worth of USD 11.1 billion, N R Narayana Murthy & family (1046, USD 1.7 billion), Senapathy Gopalakrishnan & family (1154, USD 1.5 billion), Nandan Nilekani & family (1210, USD 1.4 billion) and K Dinesh & family (1540, USD 1.05 billion).
Forbes further noted that the technology sector and more specifically Facebook, helped propel numerous fortunes lately.
