New Delhi, Oct 19: Nokia is set to release Windows Phone 8 based Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 smartphones in India on October 23, sources familiar with the development told The Mobile Indian.
Nokia had announced Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 in September but so far these are made available for Russia only with pre-order prices in terms of Rupee being Rs 20,000 for Lumia 820 and Rs 43,000 for the other one.
The pricing will be the key to the success of Nokia's new lineup. Samsung Galaxy SIII, which by far the most powerful and popular phone, is retailing for Rs 34,000. Thus Nokia will need to price the Lumia 920 at least competitive to that.
The Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system in the two Nokia phones will take the native and basic code from the Windows 8 PC operating system for easy integration and seamless synchronisation of apps as well as other services.
Nokia Lumia 920
Nokia Lumia 920 comes with a 4.5-inch ClearBlack IPS LCD panel with 1280x768 pixel resolution support and super-sensitive touch. Infact, the touchscreen can be used even with the gloves on.
The Lumia 920 measures 9.9 mm thick and houses a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 family mobile processor and is based on Windows Phone 8 operating system. The smartphone has 1 GB RAM along with 32 GB on-board storage with no capability of adding a micro SD card.
Along with the Nokia Maps, Drive and Transport, the company has added a new augmented reality based application - called City Lens - in its Location suite of apps. By using the camera, the City Lens app displays the location information about important places, cafes, subways and more.
Bearing the same Lumia series unibody polycarbonate design, the Nokia Lumia 920 has curved glass and comes with a non-removable battery. At the rear lies an 8.7 megapixel image sensor bearing camera with f/2.0 aperture and short pulse high power LED Flash next to it. This camera has Carl Zeiss optical lens for closer to real and clear images.
